Dear Sir,
Consi nment ITH A 49682
Y
I acknowledge receipt of your letter 47.3607 of 6th
September, 194.8 concerning the loss of one parcel from the above
consignment which was forwarded by your Department to the Agent
General for N. S.W. , Londo n.
As mentioned. in our Area Traffic Superintendent's
letter TBM1488 of 5th March, very extensive investigations were
mad.e regarding this matter but unfortunately we were unable to
determine the whereabouts of the missing rug.
You will appreciate that at all times we endeavour to
prevent losses of this nature but owing to condttions existing
at some overseas stations, pillaging of cargo sometimes occurs.
As we ha.ve not located the missing rug and as it was
definitely dispatched from Sydney we must assume the rug was
pillaged. at some point on the United Kingdom route.
Although our legal liability is matters of this nature is
strictly limited we feel that in view of the circumstances of this
particular case you should. be credited. with the amount of your
claim.
Arrangements have been made, therefore, to reduce our
, Invoice for ,C89.13.9. by iZ39.19.5., the latter amount representing
f the valu.e of the rug and proportionate freight charges.
The inconvenience that has been caused as a result of the
i
loss of this parcel, is very much regretted.
Yours faithfully
for QANTAS EMPIRE AIRW
