went subsequently to Wollongong to follow their 4th and 5th
year courses. At the present time when the standard of entry
to the Teachers' College is so high the interests of Kiama
children would be prejudiced by offering them a course which
could be in no way regarded as comparable with that given at

involved in proceeding to Wollongong would he negligible in
comparison with that to be gained through the more efficient
instruction given there. No one could conscientiously recommend
a child to prefer Post-primary instruction at the Kiama school
to that at Wollongong High School.'.
ACCOMMODATION:
An additional portable room would need to be supplied
at once, a science room and a manual training room would also
need to be equipped. A conservative estimate of the cost
involved in the provision of the necessary room and equipment
would be £1,000.
It may be possible to arrange for visiting manual training
and sewing teachers to attend from Wollongong but it is
questionable whether the numbers who will attend would justify
their employment.
GENE PAL :
As one terms work has been completed, pupils who have
already commenced work at Wollongong High School will be
disinclined to enrol at Kiama unless they have no very definite
object in view. At the present time children travel from Kiama,
Bombo, Minnamurra, Sheliharbour, Albion Park and Dapto to
Wollongong schools. It is assumed that this train is justified
apart altbgether from the fact that it is used by school pupils
but should the question arise at any time as to the continuance
or otherwise of the train or proposals be under consideration
for the alteration of the time-table, it is reasonable to
assume that the Railway Commissioners could not fail to be
influenced by the number using the Railway for school purposes.
It is therefore submitted,
(a) That a super-primary class in the subjects English,
History, Mathematics I, Mathematics II, Geography,
Business Princtples and Art be immediately
established;
('b) That the question of the teaching of manual work
and sewing by visiting teachers be investigated;and
(c) That the decision be reviewed at the end of the
current year in the light of the conditions then
obtaining.
