DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, N.S.W.
LISMORE DISTRICT: THEATRES AND PUBLIC HALLS ACT
EMPIRE THEATRE: TWEED HEADS.
Reference:
Your minute of 12/12/61
It was not practicable to carry out inspection prior to
the holidays but was done on 10/1/62.
Inspection has been made by Fire Commissioner and
separate report will be issued.
The hall appears to conform to the requirements but
additional ventilation appears to be warranted.
Exit lights are provided, operated from an auxilliary
generator and batteries.
Panic doors are satisfactory.
Fixed seating is not provided.
Canvas type seating in groups of eight appear satisfactory.
The main switch board is erected in the projection room and
not enclosed. Renewal of switchboard and switch gear is essential.
Sanitary accommodation meets the requirement of the act
(except for omission of wash basin in mens toilet) but the buildings
are neglected and require extensive repairs and painting.
gm,
The operating box does not conform to the requirements in
any degree. Shutters are missing, lining is not fireproof, smoke
locks are not provided.
Floor ducts are not provided.
Fire extinguishers are provided.
The operating box and re-winding room are dirty and require
repairs.
No machines are installed.
Screen is not erected.
Entrance and exit to the operating box are by small doorways
and very steep stairs. It appears that these could constitute a hazard
in case of fire and could readily be replaced.
It is not recommended that license as a theatre be renewed.
Premises could be licensed as a hall subje to repairs to
toilets and generally cleaning up.
