PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO TRANSFER TRUST BUSINESS FROM
BURNS PHILP TRUSTEE COMPANY LIMITED (LIQUIDATOR
APPOINTED) TO PERMANENT TRUSTEE COMPANY LIMITED.
Approval was given to the recommendation contained in
Cabinet Minute 90-284, dated 5th November, 1990,
submitted by the Attorney General, in relation to this
matter.
The Attorney General is to take the necessary action to
give effect to Cabinet's decision, including the
preparation of the necessary legislation.
25.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE PRISONS ACT RELATING TO
PRIVATE PRISON MANAGEMENT.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 90-229, dated 28th September, 1990,
submitted by the Minister for Corrective Services, in
relation to this matter, subject to:Prison Superintendents/Private Managers being
invested with power to discipline by clear
statutory provision;
the Minister for Health being fully consulted at
all stages of the development of the proposal on
matters related to the provision of health services
at the privately managed prison;
the private contractor and its employees being
subject to the provisions of the Independent
Commission Against Corruption Act 1988;
the Minister for Corrective Services consulting
with the Attorney General and his administration,
and with The Cabinet Office, in the drafting of the
legislation and the management contract. This
consultation should include, but not be limited to,
the matters raised in the attached Annexure "B".
(Matters to be considered in Drafting Legislation
to Allow Privatisation).
the Minister for Corrective Services consulting
with the Minister for Industrial Relations
regarding awards for staff of private prisons.
The Minister for Corrective Services is to take the
necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's decision,
including the preparation of the necessary legislation.
