PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1919 TO
CONTROL THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL ON PUBLIC ROADS AND
FOOTPATHS.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 90-267, dated 24th October, 1990,
submitted by the Minister for Local Government, and
Planning in relation to this matter.

Cabinet decided that the Minister for Local Government,
and Planning is to liaise with the Local Government
Association to set up an informal group which would
include representatives from Police and the
Anti-Discrimination Board, and which should be consulted
on zoning matters by Local Government Bodies, but only
on a voluntary basis. It was also decided that the
alcohol confiscated was to be forfeited and disposed
of.
The Minister for Local Government, and Planning is to
take the necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's
decision, including the preparation of the necessary
legislation.
