MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 89-183, dated 4th May, 1989, submitted by
the Minister for Corrective Services, in relation to
this matter.
•
Cabinet decided that the precise proposal is to be
scrutinised by the Capital Works Committee.
The Minister for Corrective Services is to take the
necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's decision.
MOTOR ACCIDENTS (AMENDMENT) BILL, 1989.
Approval was given to the provisions of the Motor
Accidents (Amendment) Bill, 1989, as summarised in
Cabinet Minute 89-190, dated 8th May, 1989, submitted by
the Attorney General in relation to this matter, subject
to the:-

Attorney General resolving the Minister for
Transport's concerns about the impact on the agency
scheme; and the
Attorney General determining the sanctions under
paragraphs 4.4 and 4.5 of the Minute.

SENTENCING BILL, 1989.
Approval was given to the provisions of the Sentencing
Bill, 1989, as summarised in Cabinet Minute 89-191,
dated 8th May, 1989, submitted by the Minister for
Corrective Services in relation to this matter; subject
to the:proposal to abolish the presumption in favour of
parole not applying retrospectively; and
the intention to not increase generally the time
that convicted offenders actually serve in prison,
being removed from the Bill.
