CLARIFICATION OF POLICY IN RELATION TO RELEASE OF LIFE
SENTENCE PRISONERS.
Consideration of Cabinet Minute 88-351, dated 4th
November, 1988, submitted by the Minister for Corrective
Services, in relation to this matter was deferred.
It was decided that the Attorney General is to bring
forward a Cabinet Minute on the Government's policy on
life imprisonment being defined as twenty years, for
announcement prior to the resumption of Parliament in
February.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE STANDARD TIME (AMENDMENT) ACT
1988.
Approval was given to the recommendation contained in
Cabinet Minute 89-4, dated 13th January, 1989, submitted
by the Attorney General, in relation to this matter.
The Attorney General is to take the necessary action to
give effect to Cabinet's decision, including the
preparation of the necessary legislation.
APPOINTMENT OF MR. RODERICK PITT MEAGHER TO THE COURT OF
APPEAL.

Cabinet approved of a recommendation being made to the
Governor-in-Council that Mr. Roderick Pitt Meagher,
B.A., LL.B., be appointed to the Court of Appeal,
Supreme Court of New South Wales, as proposed by the
Attorney General in relation to this matter.
The Attorney General is to take the necessary action to
give effect to Cabinet's decision, including
arrangements for the necessary medical examination.
