PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO AMEND THE CHILDREN (CARE AND
PROTECTION) ACT 1987 IN RELATION TO SCHOOL ATTENDANCE.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 88-219, dated 24th August, 1988,
submitted by the Minister for Family and Community
Services, in relation to this matter, subject to:-
•
* the addition of a proviso that wardship
be available on school attendance grounds,
only after a lesser order has been tried
unsuccessfully and there is evidence also
of family dysfunction.
The Minister for Family and Community Services is to
take the necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's
decision, including the preparation of the necessary
legislation.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE FORESTRY ACT 1916 TO RESTORE
LANDHOLDERS' ENTITLEMENT TO A SHARE IN TIMBER, PRODUCTS
AND FOREST MATERIALS ROYALTIES.
Consideration of Cabinet Minute 83-168, dated 28th July,
1988, submitted by the Minister for Natural Resources,
in relation to this matter was deferred.
•
The Minister for Natural Resources was requested to
report back to Cabinet with a Financial Impact
Statement.
ACCELERATED ROAD SAFETY AND ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
Consideration was given to the proposals contained in
Cabinet Minute 89-54, dated 27th February, 1989,
submitted by the Minister for Transport in relation to
this matter.
Cabinet approved of:* an increase of 3 cents per litre in the State
fuel levies over the three financial years
commencing 1 July 1989.
* proceeds from the increased levies to be
dedicated to road safety and road improvement
programs.
