PROPOSED RATIONALISATION OF THE CRIMES ACT, 1900.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 89-333, dated 4th October, 1989,
submitted by the Attorney General, in relation to this
matter, subject to:consultation with officers of the Minister for
Police and Emergency Services during the drafting
of the legislation;
•
amendment of recommendaton 3.1 (v) to provide that
a court, when considering a Griffiths Remand
involving a juvenile, shall take into account a
report prepared by the Department of Family and
Community Services;
•
amendment of recommendation 3.1 (vii) to provide
that it replicate s.17A of the Commonwealth Crimes
Act 1914;
deletion of recommendation 3.1 (viii);
the proposed offence of "concealing an offence"
being amended to read "concealing an offence
without reasonable cause" (Paragraph 4.141 refers).
The Attorney General is to take the necessary action to
give effect to Cabinet's decision, including the
preparation of the necessary legislation.

STOCK DISEASES (AMENDMENT) BILL, 1989.
Approval was given to the provisions of the Stock
Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 1989, as summarised in
Cabinet Minute 89-405, dated 13th November, 1989,
submitted by the Minister for Agriculture and Rural
Affairs, in relation to this matter.
