PROPOSED LEGISLATION FOR REDUCTION OF LICENCES FOR FOOD
STORES.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 89-304, dated 30th August, 1989,
submitted jointly by the Minister for Business and
Consumer Affairs, and the Minister for Local Government,
and Planning, in relation to this matter; subject to:*
•
the Department of Health retaining its current
"closure" and inspectorate powers in relation to
the Pure Food Act's coverage of food retail
premises; and
pending finalisation of the legislative amendments,
local councils being delegated all powers available
to the Director-General of the Department of Health
under s.51A of the Pure Food Act.
The Minister for Business and Consumer Affairs is to
co-ordinate the necessary action to give effect to
Cabinet's decision, including the preparation of the
necessary legislation.
