REVIEW OF THE WARRAGAMBA FLOOD PROTECTION PROGRAM.
Consideration was given to the recommendations contained
in Cabinet Minute 89-321, dated 25th September, 1989,
submitted by the Minister for the Environment, in
relation to this matter.
Approval was given to Recommendations 3.1, 3.3, 3.5 and
3.6.
In regard to Recommendations 3.2 and 3.4, Cabinet
decided that:-

3.2 - a special inter-Departmental Committee
be established to consider the Warragamba Flood
Protection Program, chaired by Planning and
including representatives from the Water Board,
Public Works, Water Resources, Housing and Police
and Emergency Services;
3.4 - the Committee's terms of reference should
be:options for protecting Warragamba Dam,
options for controlling flooding in the Hawkesbury
Nepean Valley,
implications of flooding for future land use and
planning in the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley,
flood preparedness planning for the Hawkesbury
Nepean Valley including dam break emergency
planning;

Cabinet also decided that:the inter-Departmental Committee should report to
the Urban Development Committee of Cabinet, which
would include the Deputy Premier, Minister for
State Development, and Public Works, the Minister
for Police and Emergency Services, and the Minister
for Natural Resources for this issue;
the general liability issue being considered by the
Attorney General and reported to Cabinet.
The Minister for the Environment is to take the
necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's decision.
