An opportunity
to just be you

While interviewing to join Novanta, I expressed
my views on working in an organization that
values equity, diversity, and inclusion. As a
woman, a mother, a Latinx member, and an
immigrant to the United States, I want my
uniqueness to be celebrated and viewed as an
asset. I also want equal footing to be able to
express my views.
I knew that if I was going to be able to have these
opportunities, I needed to land in an organization
that is intentional and makes considerable
efforts to be a DEI employer. I measure these
things by looking at a company’s actions, and
the financial backing that they put into these
initiatives. I am happy to say that Novanta
offers some of these opportunities to me.
An example of a big DEI win for me here has
been that my direct manager is a part of an

underrepresented
community too.
When we first
met, I felt a breath
of fresh air seeing his
ability to understand
and relate to my journey
as a person of color in America. Because I
could see what he has been able to achieve
at Novanta, I was able to see myself on stage,
and my trust in the organization deepened.
Being able to benefit from partnerships like this
is also essential to me from a mentorship and
professional development standpoint. There is
a sense of belonging and psychological safety
that comes from the diverse connections that
I have been able to make at Novanta, and
this allows me to be my authentic self with
confidence.
