From the President...
O
n behalf of the
North Caledonian Football Association, I am
delighted to welcome
you to this year’s Appin
Sports Football Times
Cup Final.
Firstly, I must express
out thanks to sponsors
Appin Sportswear, for
the commitment they
have made to back this
historic competition.
The Football Times
Cup is now in its 100th
year, and it has likely
been the most publicised and widely
promoted cup competition we have run
in recent years in part
thanks to the excellent
social media coverage
we have been afforded
by our sponsor. Thank
you to Appin.
I also wish to say a
big thank you to Alness
United and in particular, Tommy Regan, for
enabling us the use
of Dalmore Park for
today’s final.
While some might
say it could be advantage to be playing
a final on home soil,
the added pressure
and work involved in
preparing a venue
to host can often be
undesirable, so we are
very grateful to them
for that.
In Alness United and
Inverness Athletic we
have two very worth
finalists. Two teams
who have played some
excellent football
already this season,
making their mark with
some very big results,
not only on the way to
the final but in their
league campaigns
also.
In the middle for
us today is the very
experienced Stephen
McDade, ably assisted by Jana Brady and
Gary Carroll. We wish
them all the best today
too.
These occasions
are few in our season
calendar, so it always
good to make the
most of them and use
the opportunity to
raise funds for worthy causes, and I am
pleased to confirm we
are using the opportunity today to benefit
youngsters, with funds
raised going towards
the youth setups of
both of our finalists.
I close by wishing
both clubs all the very
best for today’s final.
May the weather remain as kind as can be,
and may it be played
in good spirit.
Best wishes,
Niall Harkiss
League President
