2. RP6 Stakeholder Engagement
Background
At NIE Networks, we strive to put our
customers at the heart of everything we
do; but how do we really know what our
customers want and need?
NIE Networks is responsible for the
electricity network which is one of the
few parts of the electricity industry
in Northern Ireland which remains a
monopoly (other than for delivery of
connections to the network which is
now open to competition). As a result,
through a ‘price control review’, the
Utility Regulator determines how much
money should be provided by electricity
customers to NIE Networks in order to
deliver targeted outcomes that meet
the needs of our customers. As such, it
is important to ensure that customers’
opinions are fully incorporated into our
plans.
and is helping us to plan for the future
in developing our business plan for the
period 2025-2031.
The current price control period is
referred to as RP6 and was agreed
with the Utility Regulator in 2017. At
that time, we set out our commitments
to customers and how we would
deliver our services to customers for
the period 2017-20246.
By listening to our stakeholders and
customers, we know that we can
better understand what they expect
and where they believe we should
focus. We understand what the
network needs to be able to do, to
meet customer expectations and the
challenges of a rapidly changing energy
landscape. That is reflected in this
outline plan.
Since then, we have carried out
significant engagement activity to
ensure our customers and stakeholders
have their say in our plans. We
provided updates on our performance
and sought their opinions and ideas.
Their feedback helped shape our
thinking and modify our service delivery,

The Final Determination (FD) for RP6 is available at the link below. Per the FD, RP6 was meant to run from 2017 to 2024; but as decided upon in
its approach to RP7, the Utility Regulator will now extend RP6 by a further year and so RP7 will commence in 2025.
