Nia Tero 2022 Annual Report - Flipbook - Page 24
NORTH AMERICA
Nia Tero works across the North American contiguous
land mass with and through tribal nations, partnering with
Indigenous Peoples to enable Indigenous guardianship of
lands and waters. This work, which is currently focused in Canada
and the United States, supports guardianship efforts that prioritize both
the restoration and protection of ecological health concurrently with
revitalization of Indigenous cultures, languages, and practices.
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Nia Tero is unique among Indigenous
Leadership Initiative’s (ILI) supporters
in being wholly focused on advancing
Indigenous governance, territorial
sovereignty, protection and restoration of culture,
and other elements serving the cause of Nationhood.
Nia Tero’s growing voice in the conservation world
is a powerful reminder that Indigenous Peoples
are the first and still best stewards of healthy,
intact ecosystems, if recognized and supported in
continuing their tenure on their own homelands.
