“This is a story of a tough beginning
morphing gradually into a tangible
opportunity to accompany and shape
the definition of UNDP’s future and,
with it, of the future of development.
The story of a massive heavy-lifting,
where hundreds of senior candidates
were assessed, scrutinized, interviewed
and eventually appointed to form the
next generation of UNDP’s country
leadership. We chose not to indulge
in our perceived misery, and to turn
it into an opportunity to define new
leadership qualities, skills and profiles
that would contribute positively to UN
reform.”
“Delinking presented UNDP with
a significant challenge but also an
opportunity to appoint a new cohort of
Country Office leaders around the world.
UNDP took advantage of this to put in
place a new process for attracting and
selecting Resident Representatives and
Deputy Resident Representatives, and
as a result we were able to select the next
gen of Country Office leadership and
put in place a comprehensive package
of support to enable them to succeed
in their new roles. UNDP should be
proud of this achievement and the new
leadership has subsequently proved its
ability to rise to the challenges.”

“Progress towards the Sustainable
Development Goals will continue
to depend on a strong UNDP.
#NextGenUNDP Resident Representatives need to deliver the policy
and programmatic ‘glue’ that holds
together and makes sense of the spread
of individual development interventions needed to move this integrated
Agenda forward successfully.”
