The Challenge
Our disordered information
environment threatens the very
fabric of our democracy.
It deepens political polarization
and erodes trust in institutions and
standards-based news organizations.
Young people are particularly vulnerable
— yet most states lack a mandate
for teaching news literacy. This
leaves them at a civic and personal
disadvantage throughout their lives.
The Solution
This crisis requires a bold response, and NLP is committed
to a national movement that reimagines how K-12 students
in the U.S. learn news literacy concepts and practical skills.
When students become more news-literate, they are equipped to
push back against disinformation, be civically engaged in democracy
and make informed decisions that impact all aspects of their lives.
