“Start by ensuring the hair is washed, well
hydrated and blow-dried,” says Britain’s
Afro Hairdresser of the Year, Michelle
Thompson. “Next, smooth the hair back
away from your face using a soft cushioned
brush, misting in a high shine gloss before
spraying evenly throughout the hair for the
illusion of a ‘wet’ look. Remember – using
any type of wet product like a gel will revert
the hair back to its virgin state.”

“Strong lip shades are always big news,
whether it’s a timeless pillarbox red or a
more on-trend statement colour,” explains
Errol Douglas make-up artist Joel Meadows. “The great news is these looks enhance
the depth and overall luminosity of dark
skin, making sure you take the foundation
over the whole lip area first and line with
matching lipliner to prevent the colour from
bleeding.”

“As long as you apply this look correctly you
can even out tone and blur imperfections,”
says Joel. “Start by mixing a priming light
diffuser with a tinted moisturiser, blending
all over and particularly at the jawline with
an egg-shaped blending sponge. On the eyes
keep it minimal – simply groom the brows
with gel and use clear mascara on the lashes,
finishing with a light pencil to open up the
eye and give a fresh, barely there look.”
