A New African Woman is first of
all, an empowered woman who
does not need empowering by
anyone else. She does not even
need to make a noise about
being empowered, because she
is already self-empowered. She
also does not need to be equal
to anybody. My Mum always
says: “The man is the head, the
woman is the neck and without
the neck, the head is not going
to turn anywhere!” So why would
anybody tell women they are
not empowered? We are already
because we control the head.
A New African Woman is
someone who believes in
their dreams and works
really hard to execute them.
She also deeply understands
and connects to the
knowledge of our heritage,
culture and history.
A New African Woman is not afraid
to explore and is always ready to
take on any kind of challenge head
on. She is a mother, sometimes even
a father figure and everything rolled
up in one. She successfully heads a
major corporation, as well as be a
mother and supportive wife. She is
someone who despite all odds, still
stands tall, contributing immensely
to the continent in all fields. The
New African Woman is most definitely the unsung hero.
