5.4 STATUTORY AND RECOMMENDED INSPECTIONS
5.4.10 The PC’s TWC or TWC should develop a programme of daily visual checks, regular
inspections should be established according to manufacturers instructions and the risks
associated with the use of the equipment.
5.4.11 Plant hire companies must provide information with all plant and equipment that they
supply. Contractual arrangements should be set up between user and hirer to set out
who is responsible for maintenance and inspection during the hire period – this should
be made clear to all parties.
5.4.12 The guidance in ACOP L22 related to regulation 6 of the Provision and Use of Work
Equipment Regulations, states that pre-use visual checks do not need to be recorded.
It is considered good practice to make use of checklists to ensure everything relating
to the structure has been considered. These could be appended to the ‘record of
inspection’.
Retention of records
For excavations, cofferdams
and
caissons,
the
Constrution (Design and
Management) Regulations
state that the record must be
kept for a period of 3 months
following the completion of
the project.
For
working
platforms,
guardrails, MEWP or scaffold
towers, the Work at Height
Regulations state that the
record must be kept for a
period of 3 months following
the completion of the project.
For all other equipment, the
Provision and Use of Work
Equipment
Regulations
state that an inspection
record should be kept until
the next inspection is made.
