5.5 TAKING TEMPORARY WORKS OUT OF USE
5.5.1 Taking a structure out of use involves a few key steps.

plan (ITP)

dismantle/take out of use
An authorised TWS/ an authorised SC TWC or the PC’s
TWC
e. Inspecting during dismantling
Lead installer/supervisor/foreman and/or
TWC/TWS/supervisor/foreman and/or TWC/TWS or
another competent person
f. Making good, packing,
storing and recording defects
Note: excavations will need to be made good,
backfilled and compacted
5.5.2
The review of risk assessments and method statements should be undertaken well in
advance of dismantling.
5.5.3
The dismantling team should be provided with a briefing or training prior to
installation. The TWS/Lead installer/supervisor/foreman should lead the briefing
however for more complex schemes is may also include the designer and project
lead and others. The briefing should be recorded and those attending training should
indicate they have received a briefing and or training. Dismantling should not proceed
until everyone has understood what is required.
5.5.4
Inspections should be undertaken prior to and during dismantling. The TWS is likely to
undertake these activities provided they have the competency to do so.
5.5.5
Note that the dismantling sequence will not necessarily be undertaken in the reverse
sequence. The structure has been under load and therefore may contain that stored
energy that will be released during dismantling that could cause injury or damage to
