Hollings leaders offer expertise to Cancer
Moonshot groups
Marvella E. Ford, Ph.D., and Benjamin Toll,
Ph.D., were invited to offer their expertise to the
Cancer Moonshot. The Moonshot was lauched
in 2016 and reignited in 2022 by President Joe
Biden with new goals. The program’s vision is to
cut the cancer death rate by half within 25 years
and improve the lives of cancer survivors. To
achieve this, the Moonshot mobilizes researchers,
clinicians, patients and advocates.
Ford was invited to serve on the External Scientific
Panel for the Cancer Moonshot Biobank, which
collects donated blood and tissue samples from
cancer patients. Toll is part of the Cancer Moonshot
Smoking Cessation Forum, which seeks to provide
guidance for cancer centers to build tobacco
cessation programs for cancer patients.
