CLINICAL
TRIALS
Finding tomorrow’s
cancer cures
Clinical trials are research studies exploring promising new approaches for
cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This may include testing new
medications, behavioral interventions, or groundbreaking surgical techniques
that have the potential to improve the lives of those living with cancer. As the
only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in South Carolina, our
involvement in clinical trials sets us apart from other health care organizations.
Our patients have access to more than 200 clinical trials that target virtually
every type of cancer.
Today’s standard cancer treatments are only available because of past clinical
trials and the willingness of thousands of individuals to take part in clinical
research. Cancer patients who enroll in clinical trials gain access to innovative
care that may not be available anywhere else.
MUSC National Cancer Institute Minority/
Underserved Community Oncology
Research Program
MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and its affiliate network are one of just 14
National Cancer Institute Minority/Underserved Community Oncology
Research Program (NCORP-MU) sites in the country. The goal of the
NCORP-MU program is to make cancer clinical trials more accessible by
offering them in the communities where patients live, with a particular focus on
areas with minority and underserved populations. The NCORP-MU program is
part of Hollings’ larger efforts to reduce health disparities and unequal access to
care across South Carolina.
