OH....
by Scott Waters
The past beckons
like a street
in a European city
or maybe
San Francisco
narrow alley
lined with
cafes and restaurants
bistros and trattoria
colorful umbrellas
to keep the sun
off our faces
as we sip
our cappuccinos
and crunch
our baguettes
I practice
my Spanish on you
as the lamps click on
and the stars
pop like corks
up in the rafters
of the sky
“How do you say…
do you have a boyfriend?”
And your response,
in heavily accented English,
“I have a husband.”
