THE PEEL
by Glen Armstrong
Of course, I want to peel the sticker
from its release liner. That sort of thing
is very satisfying and difficult
to explain, though easy to accomplish.
The die-cut shape, the perfect mix of cling
and separation, the likelihood
that this new and curled state will crinkle
as I try to lay it flat against
a painted wall, a pane of glass, a notebook . . .
The world is never as clean as I
believe it is, but I want to see this through.
The fingers want what the fingers want:
a lifting-off as satisfying
as the lamination for which they long.
