THE RAINCOATS WORN BY THE WOMEN
WE LOVE
by Stephanie Powell
hooked up at the doorway in a wet spring
the sponge of carpet overflows
porchlight glazed in
the beginning of summer bugs
a turn of air
a knowing of
which coat belongs to which woman
think of hands soothing wrinkles on
fabric in egg-shaped rings
think of
half-sleeping eyes at our backs as
a lamp divvies up the darkness
hush-tap-hush-tap, staccato
night is church-ed again
a strongroom where gossip-mouths and small
injuries are forgiven
she is texting me about babies again
you should just go for it
