She’s a long way from the Australian outback
but, when the rain started to fall this morning,
Mariella Kirkham began to feel like she was right
back at home at the start of the rainy season.
Petrichor, the distinct smell released when rain hits hot,
dry earth, suffused the car park this morning. Combined
with gasoline, hydraulic fluid and damp leather it gave a
unique scent that even the perfumieres of Grasse would
be hard pressed to match. We’ve enjoyed fantastic weather
since we assembled In Deauville last Sunday, but today was
payback time.
