24 to 27 October 2022Day 4Tamar to Taunton (100.7 miles)27 October 2022The last day of the West Country Cloverleaf started with another fine Endsleigh breakfast and abit of fettling in the car park before the short drive to the first Regularity around Brent Tor. Theweather was murky again and we started with a tricky section but, by now, the crews were gettingthe hang of it. Even with the reduced visibility the teams gave a good account of themselves as theyskipped through the sunken lanes towards the route check at Mooredge.A very foggy crossing of Dartmoor was next and then it wasonto the Up Exe Time Control. Here we stopped for coffee, cake and the chance to buy some postcards featuring allof the stunning views we’d just missed. A quick series ofTests at the Mansell Raceway brought the curtain downon the competitive element of this particular Quadrifogliobefore blasting up the main road to the finishing arch onCastle Green and prizegiving lunch at The Castle Hotel.Following the “fun first” tradition of Cloverleaf events, there were no individual winners today. The rally hadbeen divided into teams. These ‘random’ groupings thencompeted for the top spot based on the total numberpenalties accrued and times gained by each team member. After four days of driving and a few minutes of tottingup the numbers, the “winning” team emerged - Brazen Tor a foursome with a wealth of rallying experience comprisingAndrew and Ann Boland, Charles and Kit Graves, Neil andPeta Oatley and Keith Graham and Susan Hoffmann. There was also a discretionary Spirit of the Rally trophywhich went to the dynamic duo of Michael Kershaw andStephen Fisher Crouch – for their constant self-deprecatinggood humour and old-fashioned courtesy. And, as thenights draw in, the bottle of vintage Devon Cider Brandyshould help them remember the good times they had.Photos: gerardbrown.co.ukPeter and Zoe Lovett, 1972 Porsche 911www.rallytheglobe.com
