experience.
In the bar, and over the dinner tables, there was nothing
but praise for the way the event had been run. Clint Smith
summed up the views of many when he said that he found
it “hard to believe it was an inaugural event”.
Rally director Fred Gallagher was obviously delighted with
this, his first event for Rally the Globe, which was conceived
and delivered all within 16 months. “Putting together this
rally in such a short space of time was very demanding, but
as we can see, the end result has all been worth it. There
are many great people working with us and I’d like to thank
them all. Now we are looking forward to the future”.
Graham Goodwin, who has had much to do with setting
up Rally the Globe was similarly pleased. “The team we
have put together is fantastic and what they’ve delivered
has been remarkable. We’re really looking forward to the
future and it just goes to show that with the right planning,
the right people and the proper team, you can achieve
anything. I’m absolutely delighted and looking forward to
many more such events. Thank you everybody”.
Sholto Gilbertson, speaking on behalf of Bonhams, also
extended his thanks to the crews who had signed up for
this first debut event and finished by saying that “we are
delighted to be involved with Rally the Globe and very
much looking forward to seeing you on the next one”.
As for the winners, this is the first rally that Alan and
Tina Beardshaw have won after many years of trying. Upon
accepting their Classic category winners’ award, Alan gave
an emotional and heartfelt speech in which he waxed lyrical
about his famous trophy cabinet, which now might be used
for what it was intended. “Having never won anything other
than Tina’s hand in marriage, today is a very special day
for me and along with Tina and Roland the rally car, we’re
absolutely thrilled. I’m not sure it gets much better than this”.
Jim Gateley, however, is no stranger to the podium. Along
with Tony Brooks he won the Alpine Trial in 2018. Usually
he drives a Cadillac, but this time he brought a very rare
