Rest and be thankful
The Six Senses is a compact and bijou little hotel,
with a correspondingly compact and bijou carpark.
Last night, Jim Smith had managed to shoehorn
everyone into the correct position so that, come
the restart on Tuesday, they’d all be on pole
position for a quick and efficient getaway.
Sadly, despite the warm hospitality, our stay in Portugal so far
has been a damp one, and the Douro region saw some very
heavy rain overnight which continued into in the morning.
Under this deluge all four sweeps stood around waiting for
something to do. The general consensus however, is that
the cars have been very well prepared, so there was a lot of
spanner polishing going on, once they’d looked at the rattling
exhaust on Mike and Lorna Harrison’s Triumph and the small
issue with the charging circuit in Andrew Long’s Bentley.
Whilst outdoor pursuits were a bit limited because of the
weather, there was plenty to do indoors, with gastronomy
top of the list. There was a vast range of food and drink on
offer with superb ham, cheese and wine from the “library”.
An excursion to the nearby Port Knox, with some tasting,
was also on offer for those who could tear themselves away
from the spa and the well filled sofas in the lounges.
Tomorrow though we saddle up again and head down the
Douro to the busy city of Porto on the Atlantic Coast.
