Sustainability Director, Reed and
Mackay
Founder & Event Sustainability
Consultant, Worlds Better
Chris founded Print Hub Global with the
ambition of revolutionising the print
industry by providing impartial advice on
sustainable solutions and challenging
traditional practices. With a focus on
education, partnerships and a new online
platform, the company connects buyers
in the events industry and other sectors
with sustainable material suppliers and
promotes eco-friendly alternatives.
In 2021, Chris commissioned an extensive
project to gather information about
sustainable products available in the UK
print and signage market. With this
knowledge, he could facilitate the
introduction of sustainable material
suppliers directly to the clients' already
chosen printer, expanding the
sustainable options within the supply
chain, or provide direct introductions to
other suppliers that could facilitate the
sustainable option required by the client.
Chris delivers free sustainability
workshops for print and signage buyers,
even those not directly engaging with
Print Hub Global's services. These
workshops are focused on reducing,
repairing, reusing, repurposing, and
recycling. Chris also formed partnerships
with organisations like CarbonQuota, isla,
and Event Cycle to support their missions
and exchange ideas and offer free
advice.
Print Hub Global has made a significant
impact, supporting over £4 million worth
of projects globally across various
sectors including live events, retail,
property & construction, out-of-home
advertising and sport. The company's
sustainable approach has resulted in
substantial environmental benefits. For
example, by replacing PVC pull-up
banners with sustainable alternatives for
Green Sense Events, 0.2 tons of PVC
waste was prevented from going to
landfill and the need for approximately
770 kg of aluminium framework reduced.
The company's success and impact can
be measured through its financial
growth, reduction in emissions and waste
as well as the number of people
engaged through workshops and
partnerships.
Led by Chris, Reed & Mackay (R&M) is
actively working to become the most
sustainable TMC (travel management
company) and the go-to business for
clients seeking guidance, tools and
support to achieve their own sustainability
goals.
Underpinning all of this is his genuine
passion for sustainability and a desire
across the business to make measurable
change. R&M won the BTN Group Achievement in Sustainability – TMC award in May
2023, has achieved EcoVadis Gold Rating,
which puts the company in the 94th
percentile among industry peers and
committed to set near- and long-term
company-wide emission reductions
targets in line with Science Based Targets
initiative (SBTi).
R&M and its parent company Navan were
also the first corporate travel and spend
management company to give customers the opportunity to purchase sustainable aviation fuel at scale directly from a
producer through Neste My SAF, which can
help corporates to reduce the environmental impact of business air travel by up to
80%.
On the events side, R&M Events signed the
Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) pledge at
Cop27 and joined the Travel & Accommodation workstream for development of the
NZCE Roadmap. Employees have participated in training that supports R&M’s
sustainability goals, including UN Global
Compact’s ‘Climate Ambition Accelerator’
& ‘Target Gender Equality Accelerator,’ as
well as ‘Complete Sustainable Events’ by
The Meetings Show and isla.
In 2022, R&M also launched its new
educational briefing series for clients on
capturing travel emissions data and
setting targets. Chris is a founding
member of GBTA (Global Business Travel
Association) sustainability leadership
council, and as well as educating both
employees and clients, he has spoken at
the GBTA Sustainability Summit and the
Sustainable Events Show to share insights
and advocate for the advancement of
more sustainable travel and events.
Worlds Better – the sustainability
consultancy for the events industry – is
Chrissie Beck’s response to seeing
sustainability fall by the wayside time and
time again. In July 2022, Chrissie
combined her 20 years of large-scale
events delivery experience with brands like
Virgin Atlantic, Nissan and YouTube and
her sustainability knowledge to launch
Worlds Better.
Chrissie set up Worlds Better on her own,
without investment, to support events
businesses and in-house event teams
achieve their sustainability ambitions and
accelerate industry-level change towards
a more sustainable future. She now works
with brands like HP Industrial and OVO
Energy, agencies like Identity, Bray Leino,
Owl Live and Yellow Fish and event
industry sustainability body isla to deliver
services including business audits,
environmental sustainability policy
creation, certification and accreditation,
training, sustainable event planning and
delivery recommendations and carbon
reduction and Net Zero road mapping.
In less than one year, Chrissie has
achieved some incredible results,
including reducing a tradeshow’s impact
by 992.18 mtCO2e by removing carpet
from a show floor and supporting her
client through the communications to
delegates and media of the results of this
change; supporting clients to achieve ISO
14001 Environmental Management
Systems accreditation and ongoing
certification; and developing and
delivering training for isla’s carbon
measurement platform TRACE.
She also delivered and measured a
sustainably conscious media event for
over 150 sustainability superstars including
Doug Parr, Chief Scientist at Greenpeace
and Mike Child, Head of Policy at Friends of
the Earth, been published in the
Sustainable Buyers Guide, started her B
Corp application, and grown the Worlds
Better team from one to three. In
partnership with Eventprofslive, Chrissie is
also creating a suite of sustainability
workshops for the events industry.
