She has also worked closely with the
People Engagement team to create
educational resources and
communications that supported the
launch of an internal microsite dedicated
to sustainability, including supplier lists,
internal ‘green pledges’ and more.
Tori Higgins
Senior Marketing Coordinator, FIRST
Tori is passionate about creating a more
equitable world. In her initial role at Clive,
FIRST’s smaller sister company, she gained
hands-on event planning and delivery
experience and quickly realised there was
an opportunity to make efficiencies in the
planning process and have a more
climate-positive impact.
So, she set about creating a supplier
database for the event teams, providing
details on the products or services used
that were already meeting highsustainability criteria, and for those that
didn’t, she worked with suppliers to identify
low-impact substitutes. In 2020, she
engineered a move to the Global
Marketing, Strategy and Communications
Team to increase the impact she could
have on the company and wider industry.
In 2021, she was introduced to FIRST’s
Sustainability Consultant who helped her
understand how to obtain ESG buy-in
from senior stakeholders. Now, as the
Marketing and Communications lead for
the company’s ESG Committee and a D&I
Council representative for the LGBTQIA+
Employee Resource Group, she gets to
ensure sustainability (both environmental
and social) are considered in every
conversation.
A significant part of her time is spent
understanding the needs of different
teams to positively affect sustainable
business goals and empower them with
tools to deliver a more sustainable service
for clients. She co-wrote and released an
ESG-focused special two-part edition of
the company’s quarterly content series,
FIRST inSIGHT.
Over the course of 18 months, Tori worked
with an external sustainability consultant
at FIRST and passionate spearhead,
Tamsyn Barker (MD of FIRST APAC) to
create the company’s first ever
Sustainable Business Commitment
Statement and 5 Key Sustainability
Engagements. These are driven by a
dedicated team whose members now
reflect every area of the business globally,
as a collective that FIRST aptly calls,
Paramount.
Warren Campbell
General Manager, 15Hatfields
Warren Campbell spearheaded the
inception of sustainable London venue
15Hatfields in 2008 with support from the
Chartered Institute of Environmental
Health (CIEH) and has remained at its
helm as general manager since. His
mission from day one was to educate
event planners and demonstrate how you
can feasibly balance sustainability and
affordability.
Sustainability is weaved into the fabric of
the building and behind every element
there’s a sustainable story – from the
cushions, coasters and carpets to its
energy suppliers and beyond. 90% of the
venue’s hot water is provided by rooftop
solar panels, LED bulbs are used
throughout the venue and all electricity is
certified to be from 100% renewable
sources.
His infectious passion for sustainability
sees him champion best practice in the
wider events industry, including a
campaign influencing clients and
suppliers to make plastic history following
the successful elimination from both the
venue and supply chain. Partnerships
have included working alongside Better
Bankside, Team London Bridge and the
environmental charity Hubbub, to help
launch The Cup Fund in 2020 – a local
recycling scheme for takeaway coffee
cups to help reduce waste.
Warren is on a mission to become the first
venue to be entirely palm oil free and
15Hatfields hosted its first 100% palm oil
free event for Convenzis Education for
their annual National MAT Awards 2023.
Under his leadership the venue has
become the first business to achieve both
the NQA award for its Sustainable
Management System and an ECOsmart
Platinum Award from Greengage.
Warren has demonstrated that after the
initial investment, operating a truly
sustainable business can lead to
cost-savings – his latest energy-saving
devices have achieved a 50% reduction in
the venue’s utility bills. Amid the costof-living crises, ongoing supplier
challenges and environmental hurdles
fuelled by changing regulations, Warren is
more motivated than ever to pursue his
mission for a future of affordably
sustainable events.
