KPI (Key Performance Indicator) for administrative
bonuses. For that, there should be an incentive within our CBA that rewards those of you who made it
happen.
As I have stated, Class 1 is more than
just a decal or marketing feature. It is a
mindset.
Neither the one that we had in the past nor in the
present. Certainly, one that we could have in the future. We can truly be a Class 1 Department. We have
the motivation and staffing to make it happen. We
just need the administration to do their part and fund
the additional units and apparatus. Honestly, would
it not be disingenuous to place an ISO Class 1/1X
decal on Tanker 60?
Fortunately for me I have a fire hydrant in front
of my home. Kudos to Engine 50-B for maintaining
and painting it. I also have a future station planned,
about a mile from my home. I am looking forward to
stopping by upon its completion. The only thing I will
not be looking for is a pump operator because, as
expected, it will be a single company rescue station.

Hurricane Ian
response and
the power of
giving back
On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall in
Fort Myers, and there was complete devastation. In the following days, the I.A.F.F deployed strike teams from all over
the state and country. This is something the I.A.F.F has done
in the past. The strike teams from Local 1403 consisted of
two teams, one I had the pleasure of being the team leader
of, and one that Union Treasurer, Paul Blake, was team lead-

er of. My team consisted
of Jason Suite, Stephen
Busse, and John Lancaster. Paulie’s team consisted of Randy Brown,
Charles Cavalier, Danny
Montanez, Vaughn Mulder
and Tim Coiner. Our objective was to get to Fort
Myers and fix any I.A.F.F
member’s homes, active
or retired. The I.A.F.F set up shop at a local fire station. We
would gather in the mornings for a briefing, handed grids to
go to, then we’d head out for the day. Our vehicles were
equipped with supplies provided by the I.A.F.F which included
tarps, chain saws, fuel, hammers and anything that could help
