Last October, after the Board of
County Commissioners (BOCC) increased the Fire Watch rates, I have
received many questions about extra
duty services (Fire Watch) and their
various pay rates. The following is
a breakdown of which rates are in
effect for which events, so that members will understand what they can
expect to be paid.

pay. This is applied to the regular Fire Watch Rates, the Premium Pay Rates, and overtime rates.
Fire Watch Rates (IO 7-33):

FF – $70
•
LT – $73
•
Capt. – $75
•
CFO – $80
* This is the regular rate of pay for Fire Watch events that are
not subject to a different rate.
“In-kind” Services:
Certain events may be designated as “in-kind” events. For
these events, in lieu of the vendor paying employees, the County will pay the employees who work the event.
Premium Pay Rates (CBA Art 32.6):
•
$81 – CFO
•
$79 – Capt., LT, FF
Premium Pay Rate is paid on the following days
and/or events (CBA Art 32.6):
Any special event that occurs on a County Holiday:
•
New Year’s Day
•
President’s Day
•
Martin Luther King Day
•
Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
•
Memorial Day
•
Juneteenth
•
Independence Day
•
Labor Day
•
Columbus Day
•
Veterans Day
•
Thanksgiving Day
•
Friday after Thanksgiving
•
Christmas Day
The following events at Hard Rock Stadium (CBA
Art 32.6):
NFL - AFC Championship Game, Super Bowl, Pro Bowl
MLB – NLCS, World Series, All Star Games, World Baseball
Classic
College Football – National Championship game, National
Playoff game, National Bowl game, Orange Bowl game
Concert – only the Rolling Loud Music Festival
Soccer – International soccer matches, World Cup matches
Races – Miami Grand Prix (Formula 1) (paid on Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Events at Hard Rock Stadium and Homestead Motor Speedway (CBA Art 32.5):
Events that have an attendance of 40,000 or more patrons will
loanDepot Park:
Any event at loanDepot Park is compensated at an overtime rate.
PortMiami CART:
Fire Watch on the CART at PortMiami is compensated at an
overtime rate.
“In-kind” events are normally paid at an overtime rate, however,
when an event that is designated as an “in-kind” service occurs
on a County holiday or is an event at Hard Rock Stadium that
is listed in CBA Art 32.6, the premium pay rate will be in effect.
“In-kind” events:
NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at Homestead Motor
Speedway to include the Dixie Vodka 400, the Contender Boats
300 and the Baptist Health 200 races.
There are dozens of other smaller events where the BOCC has
taken action to make them “in-kind” events.
Miscellaneous:
Members may work up to 160 hours of Extra Duty Services per
pay period while on annual, holiday or compensatory leave unless the event is considered “in-kind” services. (CBA Art 32.9)
Members cannot work Extra Duty Services while on Exchange
Time (swap). (CBA Art 29.1.H)
