My time as
Editor in Chief has ended…
and H.A.D.S.
Nothing profound here. It’s time for Jack to give up the
Jumpline magazine Editor-in-Chief position. And I just want to
give a big thanks to everyone who participated in the entire magazine experience.
Post retirement. Post my handsome son dying. Post getting divorced. After those HUGE events in my life, the editor position
of our Jumpline mag was a magni昀椀cent 昀椀t for me. I resurrected
the old mummi昀椀ed Jumpline and made it new with a great team.
The effectiveness of our publication, and the response to it, felt
so good!
Now I’m busy and tired lol. The new house my daughter and I
live in is beautiful. My job at HCA Kendall Hospital Burn Center is
awesome. Things to do, places to go, people to see!
Thousands of people are exposed to the magazine, both in print
and electronically, each quarter. It’s gorgeous!
Summary: What a kick-butt team accomplishment! Thank you
everyone who worked on it with me and submitted photos/articles. I’m just an “incident commander” here at the magazine, and
I liked that role. The real magazine work, the writing, window venting, editing, door breaching, designing, and ceiling pulling were
done by all of you and my devoted colleagues at the union. And of
course, volunteer Eric Goodman!
I think we have a new editor! We’ve got a couple of prospective
replacements for me. I’ll keep you posted.
H.A.D.S. – A professional 昀椀re昀椀ghters guide
I was reminiscing with someone recently. My old daily acronym
for my EMS Captain morning e-mail came up. It got me thinking
about the old thoughts on how to maximize your day at work. If
it resonates with you then write it down! Say the words to your
crew! When you tell your crew, “It’s important to me that we live
by HADS,” then you’ll be more dedicated to it, and they’ll hold you
accountable too!
Here for you to use it if you’d like. If you aren’t maximizing your
time at the 昀椀rehouse, or are having a bad day on the job, someone is going to die, and their family is screwed forever!
Have fun. Avoid liability. Do a good job. Safety 昀椀rst.
I used to put them in my morning e-mail and promote them when
one of us was struggling at work with the insanity. HADS is the
way.
See you around. I’m still here helping in the background. And
hopefully grooming your new editor in the weeks to come.
