CSR Mercuria 2019 - Flipbook - Page 30
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 and provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the
planet, now and into the future. At the heart of
Agenda 2030 are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for
action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that
ending poverty and other deprivations must go
hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health
and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change
and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
The SDGs build on decades of work by countries
and the UN, including the UN Department of
Economic and Social Affairs
In our business and our operations certain of
the SDG are more applicable than others and
we are focusing our efforts on those more relevant SDGs in order to focus on issues where
we have the ability to have an impact.
The primary SDGs that we have found as being most closely tied to Mercuria’s activities are:
We are a Global organization operating around the
world. We are focused on
the health and well-being
of our employees working
within our offices around
the world and also those
working at our facilities.
To that end we operate a Health and Safety programme across the company to ensure a safe
and clean working environment. In addition we
recognize our broader responsibilities and as
such are focused on ensuring the same clean
and safe environment for those who visit our
premises and also for the communities that exist
in close proximity to our physical operations.
Ensure healthy lives and promote
well-being for all at all ages
Energy is our business and
being a part of the energy
supply chain comes with
social responsibilities. We
move commodities that
people need from places
where there is excess supply and we take it to places
where there is demand. We transform commodities from products where there is supply into
products which are in demand. Ensuring the
balance of the supply and demand fundamentals helps to stabilize and normalize prices and
avoids excessive increases and decreases due
to short term fundamentals interruptions. Mercuria is a supplier of products which are needed
by customers and therefore the customers will
dictate the products that are required but we also
recognize the role that we can play in helping
customers to transition to cleaner energy sources. Mercuria is active in the transition for example by helping its customers to transition through
IMO 2020 and where it can by converting some
of its facilities to cleaner fuels.
Ensure access to affordable, reliable,
sustainable and modern
energy for all
