WELCOME
Welcome to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report for 2023!
We are excited to share with you again this year more information on our strategy, our performance and to
describe to you the culture of our organization with examples of how this defines our work and our
activities on a day-to-day basis. The report mainly covers our 2023 progress. Please refer to Mercuria’s
CSR website for more information about our business and activities.
During 2023 we have continued to focus on the evolution of our business in a way that will promote the switch to
cleaner fuels whilst at the same time ensuring that the energy needs of the world continue to be met.
We pride ourselves on setting high standards in relation to responsible trading. We continually update our policies to
reflect on the latest regulations and standards, and we operate in a manner that is consistent with our Code of
Conduct and Business Principles. Our Business Principles focus on ethical and responsible business conduct, on the
integrity of our business operations and communication, our responsibility towards human rights, society and the
environment, including our employees’ safety and rights, and driving sustainable change.
We are determined to promote ethical and responsible trading and sustainable operations throughout our activities
and investments when supplying different energy products across the globe. While parts of the world shift to greener
energy alternatives, other parts of the world are less fortunate and rely on traditional forms of energies to meet their
basic human needs. Through our diverse product trading portfolio, we supply both the more traditional forms of
energies to people that need them, and cleaner energy products and solutions to those who can benefit from them.
We are committed to meeting the needs of the global community.
As part of our commitment to promote cleaner energy sources, we committed to a target of having 50% of our
investments towards the energy transition in 2025, a goal we have been ahead of. We continue to invest in the energy
transition. The diversified asset portfolio we currently have provides opportunities for cross-synergies between the
different assets and makes us better understand which assets work best towards a greener planet. Our investments in
cleaner forms of energy include technologies, as well as cleaner fuels infrastructure, many of which are new and
visionary.
As part of our determination to have a sustainable future, we have established Silvania, our commitment to invest
$500M in nature-based solutions for biodiversity and sustainable reforesting. We have already invested across five
continents and are looking at different technologies to solve some of the very numerous biodiversity issues. We
believe advancements in terms of digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence are important to our business and it is
important to leverage their benefits. We continue to search for and develop solutions that can be applied to our
business and optimize our decisions. We are pleased with the progress we have made in a number of areas including
our reporting and calculation of our group’s Greenhouse Gas emissions. In 2023, we digitized our emissions reporting
system and streamlined reporting procedures among our assets. This is aimed at providing more robust systems for
our emissions reporting as we progress towards our net zero commitment by 2050.
People are at the heart of our business. We respect and protect human rights across our operations and prioritize the
safety and benefits of the communities we touch. We ensure that our employees strive in a diverse, inclusive and safe
company culture. The mental and physical health of all our employees is very important, including those of our
seafarers. Seafarers spend extended periods of time at sea. Prioritizing their health and well-being is a priority for us.
Similar to last year, we provided a window into the seafarer’s life and work through our annual MM Marine photo
competition. The competition drew an astounding response of over 700 high-quality photo entries, showcasing the
perspective that seafarers lead at sea. We are thrilled to share the captivating photos of the winners with the world
throughout this report.
During 2024 we will continue to focus on fostering innovation in our industry, growing business in a sustainable
manner and protecting human rights.
