Positive Impacts
Mentor Schools receives $2.2 million grant for
career technical education
a collaboration between Mentor Schools,
Lakeland Community College, and Lake
County Commissioners. Set to launch in
the fall of 2024, this initiative aims to enrich educational opportunities by broadening the range of College Credit Plus
courses available at our Mentor High campus. Our curriculum expansion includes
a variety of courses such as Composition
1, Composition 2, Basic Economics, College Algebra, U.S. National Government,
Psychology, Trigonometry and Effective
Public Speaking.
CCP has never been so seamless at
Mentor Schools, Dr. Glavan says.
“This expansion eliminates two of the
biggest barriers to CCP courses, which
is transportation and time,” he relates.
In fall 2024, students can choose from
eight, one-period CCP classes that meet
three to four days a week.
“These workforce development initiatives benefit all students and their future
goals, emphasizing that career technical
education is not just for a select few —
it’s for everyone,” says Dr. Glavan.
Mentor Public Schools is excited to announce the district is a
recipient of the Ohio Department
of Education and Workforce’s Career Technical Education Equipment Grant, which expands career tech access to students across
the state. The district was awarded
$2,223,843.68 per the grant to expand educational opportunities for
students. The first-round grant recipients were announced on March
4 by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.
Mentor Schools plans to use
the grant funding for new programming at Mentor High School,
called Career Academies, beginning next school year. This is a
great opportunity for Mentor students, who will be able to earn
industry recognized credentials
through these one-year programs.
Through the Career Technical
Education Equipment Grant Program, 56 schools will receive grants
totaling more than $67.7 million,
expanding career technical education access to an additional 10,345
Ohio students. Recipients will
use the funding to purchase new
equipment for career technical
and compact schools across Ohio
for various programs including engineering, manufacturing, health
sciences, construction and more.
