School is our newest Hall of
Fame School! Sterling Morton
was selected by the Ohio Association
of Elementary School Administrators
(OAESA) to receive this honor this year.
“We are absolutely thrilled and humbled to be honored in this way, and
this is the first time in school history
that Sterling Morton has received the
award,” Principal Bill Porter shares. “We
were initially nominated by an OAESA
member outside of our Sterling Morton
community; we filled out a lengthy application for consideration; and in January we hosted two OAESA executives for
a site visit to our school.”
The Hall of Fame School award celebrates elementary schools that provide
truly outstanding educational opportunities to their students through effective
programming and instruction. These
schools are characterized by an atmosphere of growth, achievement, pride,
and a dedication to excellence on the
part of staff and students.
“Our students are the cornerstone of
our success, and they have repeatedly
demonstrated tremendous growth in
their academics, as well as continually
exhibiting great citizenship. I cannot
overstate the talent and dedication of
our teachers and support staff here at
Morton too,” Mr. Porter adds. “On a
daily basis, I see how hard they work
to make sure our students are experiencing growth, success, and happiness
at school. The evaluators of the award
also noted what a unique bond exists
between the school, our parents, and the
greater Headlands community. This is
an honor that all of our stakeholders can
truly take pride in!”
Students were made aware of the award
during a surprise assembly this spring. We

the room. Sterling Morton was also recognized at a Mentor Board of Education
meeting and during OAESA’s centennial celebration on June 17 in Columbus.
