Day 5: After breakfast, we make our way to the
port to board the Steam Packet to head back to
the Northwest.
Day 1: Outward journey calling at Morecambe for
a lunch stop, sailing from Heysham, then direct to
the hotel.
Day 2: Your rail experience begins at Douglas,
boarding the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey where
we change to the Snaefell line for a journey to the
summit, where we allow time to explore and take a
snack at the island’s highest point before we
return to Laxey to visit the wheel - also known as
‘The Lady Isabella’ - the largest surviving
waterwheel of its kind in the world. Watch the
mighty wheel turn and climb to the top for
panoramic views across Glen Mooar Valley.
Day 3: Today is ‘Tynwald Day’, when the Manx
Parliament has its outdoor celebrations at St.
Johns, followed by the Tynwald Fair, with lots of
stalls. If you wish to buy grandstand tickets
(purchased on the island), the show starts at
11am. We depart in the afternoon to visit Peel with
its gently sloping golden sandy beach. Set in a
beautiful bay surrounded by the Castle and the
Harbour on one side, and beautiful red sandstone
cliffs on the other, there are plenty of facilities
including ice cream parlours and cafés.
Day 4: Board the Steam Railway through the Manx
countryside to the popular resort of Port Erin, with
stunning views of the south coast, and Cregneash
Folk Village. At the Sound Cafe and Visitor Centre,
there are wonderful views of the Calf of Man,
home to colonies of sea birds and diverse marine
life. On the return journey to Douglas, we visit
Castletown to see Castle Rushen and the Old
School House.
