Maghull9s Best Welcome: Celebra琀椀ng
the Maghull Sta琀椀on Volunteers (MSV)
introduced water bu琀琀s to cut down on
our need to use hose pipes. We con}nue
to a琀琀ract wildlife to the grounds with our
bird feeders, nes}ng boxes and bug
hotels. Each year we hold a co昀昀ee
morning and plant sale where the
bene昀椀ciary is Woodlands Hospice. For the
昀椀rst }me in 2023 we took part in The
Na}onal Garden Scheme helping to raise
money for local and na}onal chari}es.
We are grateful for the support shown by
local businesses and of course Merseyrail
Volunteers can be found regularly on site
tending the beds and of course li琀琀er
picking. There is always something to do,
pruning, plan}ng, pain}ng& Being busy
outside is good for mental health and
las}ng friendships are made. We are
always looking for fresh faces to come
and join us carry on the good and

For the last 20 years, since 2004, the
sta}on grounds have been stunningly
looked a昀琀er by a small group of inspiring
mul}-award-winning volunteers, who
ini}ally started as li琀琀er pickers and were
joined by other helpers who felt the area
would bene昀椀t by having permanent 昀氀oral
displays. The wai}ng room houses
pain}ngs of the sta}on painted by our
own Margaret Walton. A stained-glass
window, prepared by members of U3A, is
dedicated to our 2 past chairmen Nigel
Winchester and Alan Pritchard. On the
plavorm is a storey board prepared by
Margaret Cummins showing Frank
Hornby who lived close by at the Hollies
and is buried in St Andrews church yard.
Over the years the group added planters,
hanging baskets and herbaceous borders.
