Biography
Dr Jonathan Straight FRSA is a British photographer
based in Yorkshire. He specialises in documentary,
portrait, and street genres, and having completed this
book, now knows how to photograph small objects too.
He had no formal training in photography, instead
learning at the knee of his late father, a psychiatrist
by profession and a talented amateur photographer.
Receiving a 35mm camera for his 10th birthday and
carefully watching his father in a home darkroom
gave him sufficient grounding to produce his own work.
Having enjoyed a career as a successful environmental
entrepreneur, he now works on photographic projects
while maintaining an interest in different businesses
and charities.
Jonathan has been shortlisted for Portrait of Britain,
and his work has been widely exhibited and published.
This publication is his third book of photography for
Magen David Adom. Blood, Sweat Tears and Helicopters
was published in 2018, and an updated version – Blood,
Sweat, Tears and COVID-19 – followed in 2021. In 2020, he
published Vegans in Iceland, a documentary study of the
Icelandic vegan community.
