2023 24 Black Pages FINAL 2 - Flipbook - Page 82
Dear Macon Judicial Circuit,
As we come together to commemorate "200 Years of African American Business: The
Journey, Challenges, Successes & Legacy in Macon and Middle Georgia," I am reminded
of the joy and weight of our responsibility to create a world that knows justice, peace, and
hope. This reminder is not just for ourselves, but for those who must continue our legacy
of success long after we are gone. I 昀椀nd inspiration in the tireless work that the MaconMiddle Georgia Black Pages has been doing to promote African American businesses and
culture, and I am proud to celebrate the years of energy, experience, and excellence that
grace the pages of this directory.
In my role as District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit, I understand the importance of being a catalyst for
change in our community. By fostering positive change and strengthening the relationship between our criminal
justice system and the community, we aim to build a safer, more inclusive, and prosperous Macon-Bibb and Middle
Georgia for all.
It is my hope you will join me in this commitment to making our neighborhoods safer
and protecting the most vulnerable among us through becoming a R.I.S.E. Ambassador
with our Of昀椀ce. Our youth need you to intercede and intervene, especially at this time,
when so much in the world feels hopeless and helpless. I 昀椀rmly believe education is
the path to progress. The R.I.S.E. -- Restoring Inspiration by Success in Education –
Initiative and related R.I.S.E. Ambassadors were created to help give our children better
resources, opportunities, and connections with positive role models in our community.
Through R.I.S.E., we provide youth who are impacted by traumatic life experiences
(whether through secondary victimization of violent crime, homelessness, bullying, or
the like) with life-changing experiences such as mentorship, counseling, and tutoring. Our goal is to break the cycle
of violence and give our next generation of leaders the tools they need to become successful leaders. We need
these young leaders to shape our community’s future, to bring us into the next 200 years of talent and ambition
represented within this book, thereby ensuring our children reach their full potential and create a better tomorrow.
Each day I give thanks for your steadfast support, dedication, and determination. Together, we will continue to
make history, create opportunities, bring hope to shattered lives, and build a stronger and more prosperous Macon
Judicial Circuit (Bibb, Crawford, and Peach Counties) for ourselves, our communities, and, most importantly, our
children. If you are interested in becoming a R.I.S.E. Ambassador or have a child you wish to refer to R.I.S.E. for
resources, please contact Jeremy Raines, R.I.S.E. Director, at (478) 245-6926 or jraines@maconbibb.us.
Sincerely,
Anita Howard
