Add strength to
Magdalene Team
Within the Magdalene Managed
Services team, we are lucky to have
eight colleagues working with us who
have previously served in the Armed
Forces, who bring with them over
100 years of combined service.
We have a 50/50 split between ex-RAF and
ex-Army people here – and they can be quite
competitive with each other!
Those from the Army have a broad
depth of experience across various
telecommunications platforms, taken from
experience in the Royal Electrical and
Mechanical Engineers and Royal Signals. For
extreme situations we also employ an
ex-infantry soldier, Ken Sanderson
(pictured).
All four engineers from the RAF attended
the No 1 Radio School at RAF Locking,
where they obtained qualifications in
Telecommunications, Airfields and Air
Defence. This training prepared the team for
the telecom revolution, as the UK’s highest
skilled engineers predominately come from the
military or BT.
Alongside learning telecom skills, life in the
military also provided our engineers with the
opportunity to travel the world, communicate
effectively with all ‘rungs of the ladder’ and
broaden their horizons – as well as the chance
to enjoy the odd beer.
One of the biggest culture shocks for our
ex-armed forces colleagues was experiencing
a flatter management structure, and day-today life that isn’t strictly regimented. On the
plus side, their company cars weren’t green!
The comradery between the teams is an
element that is really appreciated in the
Managed Services team. It’s great to see
the banter and relationships that ex-military
individuals create and that comes so naturally
to all of them.
