On January 15th, LSU Students experienced an arctic freeze blast
from a cold front. The University canceled classes on January 16th
due to these circumstances, along with a delay of classes until after
12:30 the following day. Roads stretching from New Orleans all the
way to Houston were covered in a sheet of ice, making roadways
unsafe and dangerous to motor vehicle operators. A lot of accidents
occurred despite the cautionary measures taken on the roads.
Speeds were drastically decreased to no more than 25 miles per
hour on major interstates along with drivers having their hazard
lights on. The temperatures reached below 30 degrees, making it
one cold Louisiana storm.
