The campus lakes are a popular destination for both students and
the Baton Rouge community, and many students are curious about
what is going on with them in light of construction and unusually
shallow waters. The answer is the University Lakes project. This
project aims to improve water quality and connect lakes in the
Baton Rouge area as one system to reduce flood risk. The University
Lakes project started Phase One by dredging the lakes to improve
water control. This creates the lake having shallow waters and
looking dry. Phase One will take a year to complete, while Phase
Two will start upon completion of Phase One.
