e World Championships in tennis were held in Crete, where Gábor Máthé was our only contestant. As
anticipated, Gábor was off to a good start, the matches between the four best players were expected
to be very close. In the end, his Czech competitor, whom Gábor knows well, stopped him, and Gábor had
to settle for fourth place.
In November 2023, Poing, a city near Munich hosted the European Deaf Shooting Championships,
where three-time deaf Olympic champion Míra Biatovszki competed in Hungarian colours, and ended
up winning a silver medal.
Held in Erzurum, Turkey in March 2024,
the
Winter
Deaflympics
will
pose
the
next big challenge to our athletes. Altogether 17 Hungarian athletes will participate. e athletes training for the Summer Deaflympics are also competing at
many preparatory competitions for the
European and world championships. We
hope that just like Nikolett Gál and Miklós
Szigeti, many young athletes will also join
the
world
of
deaf
sports
and
achieve
greater and greater results that we can
all be proud of.
