GET TO KNOW THE HUNGARIAN
DEAF SPORT FEDERATION!
Deaf sports are undergoing immense development at an international level as well, with
international qualification systems gradually being introduced for all sports. us Hungarian athletes also need to fulfil requirements to ensure that only our very best compete in
national colours.
Our athletes attended 6 world and 4 European championships in 2023
Last year, we achieved our biggest successes in athletics: two of our athletes, Nikolett Gál and Miklós
Szigeti represented Hungary at the European Deaf Athletics Championships, held simultaneously with
the World Championships in Budapest. Nikolett Gál became adult European champion in the 100-metre hurdles, breaking the European record, and she also won 3 silver medals in the 100 and 200-metre
dash and long jump in the U20 Championships. Miklós Szigeti won gold medal in the 100, 200 and
400-metre dash in the U20 Championships, becoming the most successful athlete at the European
Championships. Hence our athletes finished the competitions with 7 medals in total.
We achieved great successes in judo, as well,
two Hungarian judokas received medals at
the European Championships in Sofia. Based
on his previous performance, we were hoping
that Patrik Ötvös would get us a gold medal,
which
he
then
confidently earned
aer
a difficult start. Beside Patrik, Martin Filákovity
also won a bronze medal.
