The key comes down to a tip shared by, of all people, a
romantic novelist named Nora Roberts. Now, of course,
the lesson she shared wasn’t originally intended for
these purposes. However, this is spot-on advice when
dealing with the IRS ...
“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have
it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t
step forward, you’re always in the same place.”
Pay special attention to the second sentence. You see,
if you simply ask, the IRS will sometimes waive at least
some penalties. My experience shows this happens
about 50% of the time.
Again, you just have to ask. The IRS won’t voluntarily
waive these extra fees because penalties generate big
revenue for them.
