REMEMBERING
CATHY JONES
In memory of Cathy
Anne Jones of
Sykesville, Maryland,
the Bluebird Fund was
established with the
Live Like Lou Foundation for the purpose of
supporting ALS
families through Live
Like Lou’s home improvement grant program,
funding renovations and/or equipment/supplies
that are often necessary following an ALS
diagnosis.
Cathy Anne Jones, age 66 of Sykesville,
Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home
surrounded by her family on Wednesday,
October 4, 2023, after a courageous journey
with ALS. Born August 28, 1957, in Washington,
DC, she was the daughter of the late George and
Constance (Carmody) Halfpap. She was the wife
of 38 years to Michael Scott Jones.
Cathy’s interests included following the
Baltimore Orioles, camping, and spending time
with the grandkids. Surviving in addition to her
husband are sons, Chris Jones and wife Jessica
of Camp Hill, PA, and Steve Jones of Hanover,
PA; grandchildren, Mason and Owen Jones; and
many other family members and friends.
Bluebirds are often known as the “bluebirds
of happiness,” meaning they are generally
associated with the concepts of joy, happiness,
and harmony. The bluebird is a symbol of hope,
love, positivity, and renewal, embodying the
essence of life and beauty. Along with their
intelligence, they are also known for their
courage, determination, and resilience.
A bluebird reminds you to immerse yourself
in the beauty of nature that surrounds you and
set yourself free. Even in the harshest climates,
where there is a scarcity of food, these birds still
manage to sing cheerfully because they know
better days are ahead. It is a sign that you should
never lose faith, even in the darkest hours. You
must hold on to the belief that, in the end, it will
be alright.
Cathy’s spirit is that of the bluebird—beauty,
courage, and determination. She drew strength
from the partnership and determination of the
bluebird family, something all ALS families need
to survive and thrive. Her goal was to, “let them
learn and let my life matter for something.”
Bluebirds wintered at Scott and Cathy’s
home and she watched at least a dozen broods
from their family room windows. Cathy’s niece,
Danielle, is an accomplished artist and framed a
painting of a bluebird for her, which is referenced
in the graphic associated with this fund.
